Akylite

Akylite is a lightweight, durable polypropylene (PP) board with either a fluted or bubble-like honeycomb core. It is a versatile material widely used in advertising, exhibition systems and packaging. It offers an alternative to materials such as PVC foam board or cardboard, with better resistance to environmental conditions.

Akylite boards are produced through extrusion. In this process, softened polypropylene is forced through a specially shaped die that gives the material its final form and internal structure. It is a continuous production method that creates boards with a consistent construction and precise dimensions. A multi-channel die can form either a fluted core with parallel channels or a bubble-style honeycomb core.

The honeycomb construction combines low weight with high rigidity and resistance to mechanical damage. It also provides very good resistance to moisture, weather and chemicals, making the material suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Akylite is lightweight, durable and fully recyclable. It resists moisture, UV radiation and changing weather conditions. Its resistance to chemicals, oils and solvents also makes it suitable for packaging and logistics applications. The surface can be printed directly using screen printing or UV digital printing, while the board itself can be cut, creased, bonded and stapled without cracking. Compared with many other materials used in advertising and exhibition systems, it is a more environmentally responsible option.

Akylite is available in several variants designed for the needs of the advertising, packaging and industrial sectors. The three main versions differ in their internal structure and surface properties.

Akylite with a honeycomb core

This version has a distinctive cellular core resembling a honeycomb. It provides high mechanical strength while keeping the board lightweight. Because loads are distributed evenly across the structure, the board offers improved resistance to pressure and impact. It is well suited to outdoor applications, exhibition systems and durable printed advertising.

Fluted Akylite board

This version contains longitudinal internal channels that improve rigidity and stability while keeping the board easy to process. It is commonly used for advertising signs, election boards, reusable packaging and transport dividers because it protects products effectively. It is also more flexible than the honeycomb version, making it suitable for structures that require bending.

Akylite with a single-sided coating

This version has an additional protective or coated layer on one side. The finish improves ink adhesion and provides greater resistance to abrasion and weather. It is particularly suitable for UV digital printing and screen printing, as well as applications where an attractive surface finish is important, including advertising panels, signage and information systems.

Akylite is quick and straightforward to install or remove, and its low weight, rigidity and ease of processing mean that specialist tools are rarely needed. Depending on the application, boards can be fixed using double-sided tape, adhesives, screws, rivets, staples, hooks or suspension systems. The fluted or honeycomb structure makes the material easy to cut to the required dimensions. In exhibition systems, trade-show stands and advertising displays, installation is particularly simple and the boards can often be reused because they are unlikely to be damaged during removal. Their resistance to bending and impact also allows them to be transported and stored safely between projects.

Akylite is compatible with modern production methods including UV digital printing, screen printing and self-adhesive film application. Its smooth surface supports good ink adhesion and produces durable, vivid graphics. Some board variants feature additional coatings that improve resistance to abrasion and weather.
